Get the Door - It’s Preservation.

May 23, 2006

I’ve been thinking lately about where this blog will be in 5, 10, 20 years. I mean, it’s the best kept record of our children that I have. Sure, the kids have baby books, but mostly they are fancy shmancy books, stuffed with greeting cards, locks of hair, scraps of paper with measurements and other things that don’t matter nearly as much as the stories that are here. So I was thinking that perhaps I should begin printing out these pages every so often and gluing them into a scrapbook of sorts.

I know nothing about scrapbooking, except that you’re supposed to use acid free paper. Does that mean you have to use acid-free glue too? I wouldn’t want to lose my precious recipe for nipple cookies, the Shitty Day story, or the Cure for Cankles, which, by the way, people are STILL coming here for that. Seriously, stop eating, and gargle them in salt water people. You heard it here first.

Seriously, how are you preserving the memories you are making on your blog? Us Mommybloggers have broken much ground, and I want to know how to keep it forever.

Also, I’m over at BlogHer today too, talking about Blogging Addiction.

You have a great site design. Really.

About keeping my memories, I have taken to “digital scrapbooking”

I bet the designer in you would like it too. It’s so fast, easy, and effective.

Here is a site to look at if you are interested: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/digital.asp

I don’t think I blog about anything worth saving quite frankly…I inject little about my family into my blog…for a good reason…they’d be upset if I did. (I had to delete a blog last fall due to my ex going completely psycho on me.)

At the moment I don’t do anything to preserve my blog. I think I read somewhere that there are now services that will download your entries, allow you to edit them, and then publish them in book format. But I can’t remember the names of the businesses.

(A lot of help I am, right?)

Really all I want to do is preserve my sanity. However, being one who once ‘pickled’ years of correspondence for an installation, the issue of preserving is ripe. At this point in my life I have plastic boxes with my children’s art and photos, I figure when they are both older I will then make time to organize it allinto viewable memories. Check out Post Partum Document by ? sorry the name escapes me.

    Check out my crazymumma blog….Anne

MommaK told me there’s a site that will print out and bind your blog entries for you. I’m going to get the address from her and see how much they charge. :)

I swear to God, that woman knows everything. Thanks Lucinda! I’d be very interested!

Acid free papers and glues are important, especially for teh nipple cookie recipes. Im planning on doing the same thing, my husband is mildly appalled

I never really thought about presevering my blog entries before.

I have 2 blogs, one for me and one that is more a way to keep in touch wih the family (and is full of all the kid’s photos). I do hope that in years to come the litte ones can read all the great memories through the family blog so maybe I should look into preserving it.

Hmmm, you’ve got a girl thinking now Karen!:)

I scrapbook and I digitally scrapbook and I blog too but it doesn’t make me Martha Stewart, you can still be a scrapbooker without becoming twee!

I think I found one option - Lulu? Anyone heard of it?

That’s a great idea! I’ve never thought about printing out my posts, but I do reread my previous posts as a reminder of days gone by. But now that you mention it, I should print some of them out and paste them in a diary of some sort!
