Touched
September 21, 2006
Every once in a great while, we are blessed with people in our lives that make us feel appreciated. I find the longer I’m on the Great Big Internet, the “every once in a while” turns into alot more often.
4 years ago, I met Sassy, Angela, Nicole and Penny in an MSN Group for Moms, which still belong to together. Since that time, we’re visited each other’s homes, despite being separated by 3000 miles of prairie and mountains, except for Nicole who lives a couple hours away from me.
3 years ago, I began reading Dooce, who then had a blogroll that led me to Sweetney, and Beth from Crazy Us (who is on a break right now): two of the most amazing, fun and heartfelt women I know. True rockstars.
Nearly 2 years ago, I started blogging on *cough* Blogger, before moving here. In that time, I have met more Rockstars, including Lindsay, Miss Ann, Rachel, Annie, Rik, Jen, T, Beth, Erin, Cool Beans, and Momma K. I am wrapped up in their lives like a kitten in a Cottonelle commercial all toilet-papery, but in a cute way.
I also started reading Cancer Talk back then. I watched as Amanda spoke about her true love Eric, their uncertain amount of time together, and I began to look at Daren in a completely different way. Sure I had appreciated him before, but the petty arguments we used to have are no more. Amanda and Eric taught me to truly appreciate every moment with my husband.
I stopped nagging. I stopped nit-picking at little things. I started kissing him when we were sitting in the car at red lights. We started dating each other again. I started turning off the computer and snuggling up with him when he was watching football. I fell asleep with my head in his lap many a night. Sorry Sarah, my dear sweet friend, but football is boring to me.
When Amanda lost Eric to cancer, I cried for them. I cried mostly for her. Eric was no longer in pain. He had found peace. I prayed at night that Amanda would too. You see, they touched my life so very much that they changed my perception of time.
2 weeks ago, I posted about Uncle Buck’s Hike to raise $20/mile for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. I posted the button on my site, prominent for all to see, and there it will remain until the hike begins March 17, 2007. I did this because I care very much for Amanda and I would LOVE to see Uncle Buck’s total goal of $43,492 realized. For Eric. For Amanda. For others dealing with this dreadful disease.
Never did I expect what came today. After all she’s given my heart, my marriage, my life; Amanda sent these:

I bawled like a baby when I read the card:
I hope these are ok - this is my first time sending flowers to another country! I just wanted to say thank you for everything that you’ve done for Eric and I. I can’t wait to meet you in person. Amanda.
Amanda, thank you. Not only for the flowers, which are absolutely gorgeous, but for something more rare than any true friend could offer: the gift of appreciation, deep in my heart.

A friend of mine dropped by yesterday with flowers, saying she had been thinking of me. Some people are just kind, always thinking of others–and they make me want to be better.

Some folks have the gift of encouragement. God uses them to bless us and for that I am so thankful! Looks like you got blessed in a beautiful way.
And you blessed me with your kind words over at She Lives. Thank you for stopping by!
