Remember I told you about Design Mom, running a month-long giveaway where she gives away something every weekday, all month?? I WON SOMETHING!? Check this little guy out.? Adorable right?? It’ll be a Christmas gift for Thomas.? The month-long giveaway lasts until December 15th, I hope you get in on this action and win something too.? There’s some pretty yummy candles there today.? All you have to do is comment on the entry about the giveaway of the day to be entered.? Check back the next day to see if you’ve won.
Good luck!? I have to go vacuum my house.? Cindy, Thomas and I walked for an hour this morning and while I was out, the dog tracked mud through the kitchen and livingroom - I didn’t realize her paws were dirty.? Oops.? Maybe I’ll blast some good music and clean the whole house - it’s not bad so it’ll only take me about 30 minutes to tidy up.? More exercise!
Yay! There’s an episode of House on right now that I haven’t seen before. Desperate Housewives was REALLY GOOD too. Sunday nights rock. My other favorite t.v. night is Thursday because of Ugly Betty and ER. Oh and Tuesday is House, usually. Those are the only three nights I really watch anything.
4 months ago, I obtained a prescription from my doctor for Xenical. I started it today. There was something so daunting about the nasty side effects, that I had to really think about it before taking it on. You know, make the commitment, blah blah. So my sweet husband went to the grocery store today and bought all kinds of veggies and fruit, lean meats, fish, skim milk and a box of Cheerios for this new way of life.
True, I’ve lost 5 lbs since pre-school started, by walking every day, but I’ve stepped it up to add another 45-60 minutes at night, after dinner. The Xenical is simply supposed to block any fat that I might intake. I have to burn off the fat that I currrently carry. I read that if I slip, I’m going to be VERY uncomfortable. Motivation? Oh yes.
So now that pneumonia is gone (though I have that weird ear plugged thing still), and I’m a non-smoker, it’s time to step up the game. I’m interested in hearing from any bloggers that got themselves into shape. I already know about Carmen, and I’ve heard rumours about Jay (not really, I read it somewhere, Jay, relax, but for Pete’s sake, update your archive link to that section). Any low fat recipe pots of gold? Post em here.
Tonight, the kids and I made dinner together while Daren studied. It was so cute to see the two of them, each standing on their own chair at the counter, Dylan cutting cubes of cheese for the salad and Thomas eating it as fast as he could. When Dylan put the last of the cheese into the salad, Thomas piped up, “Diwwwwon! Can I have some cheese pwease?”
As Dylan reached into the bowl, Thomas held the cardboard tube from the empty tin foil to his mouth and bellowed, “HERE COMES DA CHEESE!” and the two of them crumpled to the floor, laughing. I wish I’d grabbed the camera.
Also, here’s a video for my Canadian Homies, called “Let’s Go To The Mall.” Oh the memories. My friends and I spent more time in the Food Court of the Meadowvale Town Centre then in school. Fries with Ketchup and Gravy (gross!), Acid Wash Jeans (grosser!), Bubble Skirts, Donair (grossest!) I have no idea who Robin Sparkles is, but this video had me laughing! “I’m gonna rock your body ’till Canada Day!”
The kids went to see Santa today. Dylan had written a letter to Santa, and stuffed it in an envelope. I asked him if he had included Thomas and he smiled at me. “Of course!”
I wanted to make sure Santa had our address so I unfolded the letter and this is what I saw:
Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen collected the pet peeves and angst-ridden pleas of people in Helsinki and then composed this choral work around the list of complaints.
My favorite line: “Finnish language is bloody hard to learn!”
It’s a Professional Development Day for teachers today. In short, it means my kids are home. I hissed at Daren last night to close their doors when he woke so we could all sleep in.
Me, delusional? Um, yes.
Thomas has not slept through the night in the last 2 weeks, because he has been coughing at night. Last night was no exception. He coughed quite a bit before midnight, only slightly waking up 3 times, and then was quiet until morning. Daren shook me awake at 6:50 to tell me I had to get up. I pretended he didn’t exist until it got annoying. (I was having a stellar dream about Grisham from C.S.I.)
A little while ago, I discovered this website, Threadless. Members of Threadless (anyone can be a member) can submit designs and they get judged by other members and if they are good enough, they are printed up on t-shirts and sold to the general public. There are some very creative people out there. I had 8 shirts in my cart before I realized that I didn’t have enough room on my credit card. Whoops!? So I picked up a shirt each for the boys.
I’m trying to raise my boys to be alot like their Daddy: helpful around the house, finding solutions rather than complaining about them (still working on that one with hubby), and being self-sufficient. So for Dylan (who has removed his detachable arms for this picture), I picked this one:
Heh. Then I had to explain who MacGyver was. Daren wasn’t home when the shirts arrived so being as young as I am, I had to think about just how to explain MacGyver. So I told Dylan, “MacGyver was COOL. He could make a boat out of toothpicks and save himself off a desert island.” Yes folks, as a parent, you often have to pull explanations out of your Southern Hemisphere.
The text on this picture reads: “If you don t help feed them, who will? Please call Concordia Children s Services at (02) 713-3462.”
This is the shocking, yet effective ad campaign created by Y&R for Concordia Children’s Services, in the Philippines. The picture is so detailed, so compelling. With all my heart, I hope it works.
If anyone can find a way to donate, please leave a comment. I couldn’t find any link but I’d like to post one. Thanks in advance.
