Guess the Celebrity, and a Really Really Perfect Post!

February 1, 2007

For the first time ever, I’m participating in Motherhood Uncensored’s Blog Exchange. My partner is Jessica from It’s My Life. So the following was written by Jessica, and my post will be on her blog today too!

The fun part is that we’re both celebrities and you have to guess who we are. You win nothing! Fun eh?

So there I was, at the end of a bloody long day. My ears were bleeding. Horrible people one after another, when we finally get to the last one. Blimey this girl was HOT. Hair all the way down to her ankles. Pretty face. Good teeth. At least these sodding Americans ‘ave that. Couldn’t earn a bloody penny singing in the Tube, but she was a peach!

I told ‘er she was horrendous and we were done with it. We pack up our kit an’ head out to get a few hard earned pints. We get outside and there she is again! Weeping on a chair just outside the door.

I don’t know what came over me, must ‘ave been an excess of bad singing, but I went over to her and said “come on love, come’n ‘ave a drink.”

I took her back to my hotel. I promised her a “private audition”. Amazing what girls will believe in America.

I gave her a few drinks and had her dance for me. I really liked the way her super long hair swung around her when she danced.

One thing led to another and it was a lovely time really, but I still don’t understand why she got pissed at me and left. I was just giving her some constructive criticism. Fact is, I don’t really get these Yanks, maybe the Internet can help me. Would you ‘ave gotten offended by any of these comments?

You ‘ave a day job right? It’s a good thing you’re not a professional.

I’ve been on lifts that go down better than you.

Oh yeah baby, show me those chunky thighs again…

Cheeky monkey, your arse is as hairy as your head!

I cahn’t believe it. My mum could do that bettah than you.

Wow, and I thought your singing was bad…

A Perfect Post January 2007
Now it’s time to get serious. The other day, I was reading at Heather’s blog, and since I joined Swank, I’ve been trying to get to know the others that work there, especially since I respect them very much and want to develop a lasting relationship with the three of them.

Heather posted a couple of videos: the first one is of a grown woman with autism and it is beautiful. It made me tear up. Made me smile. Then, Heather posted a video of her daughter, Emma, who is also autisic and beautiful. When I hit play on Emma’s video, Thomas had been playing near my chair and he stood up to watch. He was quiet, still…then swaying with her. I watched him as he took in her sounds, her rhythm. He looked up at me and said, “She’s singing Mommy.”

“Yes she is baby.”

Heather vows not to make any more excuses for Emma’s sounds. She wrote:

I will stop making excuses for my daughters voice. I will stop apologizing to those who find her loudness offensive. I will not confront nor will I acknowledge anyones dissatisfaction regarding her means of communication. I do this often, in the store or while eating out. I am self conscience of those around me, and their reaction to Emma. (click here to read the post in it’s entirety.)

I lost it at that point. Tears streamed down my face. My own best friend deals with a special-needs son, and I’ve comforted her when she has faced adversity from strangers and family alike. While we’re fighting judgment from all sides, every day, we need to stop and remember that we aren’t all the same. Acceptance. It’s Perfect.

[...] Um, First of all, thank you Karen (Troll Baby) for the “Perfect Post Award”. I am speechless. I am so very thankful that I have this outlet to share our journey, and to share my heart regarding my daughters disabilities. The fact that “I have something to say” was chosen for this award, well it touches me deeply. I pray that it touched many of you too. To quote Karen: While we re fighting judgment from all sides, every day, we need to stop and remember that we aren t all the same. Acceptance. It s Perfect. [...]

Well…didn’t really care for Jessica’s post, but of course it’s Simon Cowell.

But, your PP Award was fantastic! And how awesome the story of Thomas watching the video was. Amazing.

I have no idea what celebrity that is… I got all caught up in Heather’s post. My last post was all about our son and his autism and inability to express himself. I watched those videos in amazement and familiarity. Dman used to pitch terrible fits/melt-downs at not being able to express himself. It was horrific at times. We began video taping him and then showing him the tapes. The first time he saw himself, he cried. It was so heart wrenching. However, he did recognize it as himself and began to see and soothe himself in process. It was revolutionary in our communication, however rudimentary at the time it was, to the next level.

    Inspiring.

    Totally.
