The last scary movie I saw was The Ring, back when it first came out on video. I have always been a bit of a pussy about scary movies, but this one affected me greatly. I have a really big problem with gore and suspense. I get right into the movie and my heart is racing, my body shakes, generally I’m just a huge wuss about it.? I would hazard a guess that the celebs I’ve been making fun of would laugh if they knew what a big pussy Vodkarella is.
Especially when that movie has creepy hairy kids in it:
After I watched the The Ring with Daren, I went outside for a smoke (this was even before Thomas was conceived). I stood on our back deck, and the reflection from the neighbours porch light cast a shadow of what I thought was the little girl from The Ring. My heart jumped and I grabbed the dog and hauled ass into the house.
The next day I realized that porch light had illuminated some tall cedars and that’s what I had seen. I laughed at myself but swore off scary movies, especially once I developed PPD after Thomas arrived.? When I had PPD, I had those nasty images in my head and so watching this kind of movie only made that worse.
Last weekend, Daren threatened to bring home Vacancy, and much to his surprise, I said, “Okay.”? So we finally rented it this weekend, curled up on the couch and I proceeded to have 45 heart attacks and shake more than Ricky Martin’s ass. ? Needless to say, despite the entertainment I was able to provide for my better half, I won’t be watching another scary movie ever again.

I occasionally enjoyed scary movies before my son was born, but ever since I had him (and actually while I was pregnant, too) I absolutely can’t handle them. I even have a hard time with some action movies.

Oh, I can’t watch scary movies either! My imagination and dreams are just to vivid to handle them. Give me What About Mary any day!

I used to LOVE scary movies, but something happened and I get all freaked out when I watch them now. On the very rare occasion that I do watch them, Cleatus has to promise to stay next to me for the remainder of the night. If he goes to bed early, so do I. If he takes a shit…well, I stand outside the bathroom door and whine for him to hurry up. So, its pretty rare that we watch scary movies.

My rule for scary movies, especially ones in the theatre, is that I don’t sleep alone that night. Doesn’t mean that anyone is getting lucky - it just means when I bolt awake screaming in the middle of the night the appropriate person is being punished.

Like Sassy, I won’t sleep alone at night after a scary movie. But I love watching them. Something about being scared is fun. My first scary movie was Poltergeist, when I was 6 years old. I slept in my mom’s bed for over a week after that.

So… Would you recommend this ‘Vacancy’? I need a good reason to get my big girl panties out of the dresser drawer and watch something scary.

Dude, The Ring scared the pants off of me, too. I walked out of the theater, and a little girl with THE EXACT SAME HAIR was standing in front of me. Then, I got home, and the cat sat on the remote for the television and TURNED IT ON. I may or may not have dragged my high school self into my parents’ room to sleep on the floor that night.

How funny. DEFINATELY, DO NOT GO SEE THE NEW “HALLOWEEN”. It was THE goriest, bloody disturbing movie ever. My boyfriend thought it was the best movie he has ever seen. Better than all the old Halloweens put together! Figures, right? Rob Zombie is DISTURBED!!

You are kind of link Jo. Did Jo ever tell you that time I hide in the closet and did The Grudge throat thing? She punched me in the nose and cried lmao

“The Ring” fucked me up too.
I haven’t watched a scary movie since then.
September 18th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
You are not a pussy. Not to me. I’d never even consider watching the Ring. The last one I watched was the Sixth Sense. Never again. I’m still scared of that little kid.

I read your blog all the time. I might miss a day here or there but I always read back entries to catch up. And then I see your post from today - what happened? Whoever is saying mean things to you - I’ll go kick their butt. I have some pent up anger that I’ll gladly use in your defense! I’ve read nothing offensive EVER on your blog. Come back - you make me laugh. It’s good to know that no one’s life is perfect and you make me laugh!

I need you back too! This is YOUR world and NO ONE should criticize you for your opinions. If they don’t like it, they don’t need to come here.

i know it’s hard when someone attacks you. i had a bad problem on my blog with someone i actually knew! it hurts and feels real and all that jazz. please don’t feel censored, although i know exactly what you’re saying. you can apologize if you feel you need to, and move on. people who are bullies or flamers will usually dry up and go bother someone else. please, please don’t let it make you tear this down.
i like you plenty. does that count? it should! don’t let the negatives be larger than they deserve to be.
xx

If it makes you feel better, I slept with the lamp on in my bedroom for almost a week after watching The Ring. Seriously.

I’m so afraid of the dark..no way could I watch anything scary. There are some movies I’ve wanted to watch and won’t…Good for you for trying to be a good sport.

I don’t do scary movies either. Hell, I remember reading Pet Cemetary when I was 12 and thinking for months afterward that I could feel a cat lying at the end of my bed! Scared the shit out of me!
Therefore I’m prime make fun of material when my kids talk about the fact that Mom won’t watch The Ring, Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, or any of that other crap. This bitch can’t handle a damn heart attack!

I *love* scary movies. But they don’t play well with my panic/anxiety disorder. So I’ll watch them, but grateful I have ativan on hand LOL.

I have a great Ring story: I hate scary movies, and I watched this one with my hands laced in front of my face. So the scary bits would be diffused. You know what I mean. So after the movie was over, and the credits were running, my husband gets up and goes to the bathroom. AND THEN THE PHONE RINGS. I jumped a mile high and screamed for him. And he was laughing as he came out of the bathroom with his cell phone in his hand. ****er.
