It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time

December 13, 2007

For the last week or so, Thomas has been pretending my kid brother has been at our house (he’s 30, but still my kid brother). Every lunchtime, I’ve had to make an extra sandwich for Uncle Joel, making sure to cut it into triangles. Hey freeloader, you owe me $4 worth of peanut butter and grape jelly.

“Uncle Joel” has been here all week despite holding down a full time job & taking care of his girlfriend Mel, and their fur-babies. Thomas has been running all over the house, yelling, “Come on Uncle Joel! Take off your sweater Uncle Joel. Oh, I like your shirt Uncle Joel! Do you like my shirt Uncle Joel? Let’s play swords/cars/Lego Uncle Joel. YOU CAN BE THE BAD GUY.” Heh.

Thomas woke up from a rare nap this afternoon, crawled out of his tent (which he has been sleeping in for 3 weeks) and announced, “UNCLE JOEL FARTED IN MY TENT AND WOKE ME UP!”

“Oh no,” I said, “What are you going to do about that stinky Uncle Joel?”

“Throw him in the snow!” he exclaimed.

“That’s not very nice,” I offered. “Who will you play with if you throw Uncle Joel in the snow?”

“Auntie Mel,” Thomas said. “She smells good. Like chocolate pudding.”

Perfect! I needed that laugh today.

I sometimes smell like sugar cookies (coconut lotion I wear in the winter), but I’ve never known anyone to smell like chocolate pudding. I bet to a kid, that’s about as close to heaven as a person can smell.

    (Note: formerly Thursday’s Child)

When I was a kid, I had bunk beds in my room, and while I never actually slept in a tent, I always had a fort made up with nearly every sheet and blanket in the house.

Mmmmm, chocolate pudding smell is a good thing. When I use Palmer’s cocoa butter lotion my kids say I smell like chocolate chip cookies.

I love Palmer’s lotion as well. My little girl just tells me that I smell yummy in her tummy. She also likes to pretend that mamaw is everywhere we go. Gotta love our little one’s imaginations. I think it’s wonderful.

Have I said lately how much I love Thomas? He’s awesome.

My daughters found the perfect pet for their city-dwelling uncle, a pet rock. They named it, carried it around in a sling and snugli for weeks, and then finally put it in a box (with air holes!) and gave it to him for his birthday last April. It was hysterical.

Not that I’m giving Thomas the idea to choose a 5-10lb mini-boulder for his Uncle Joel or anything…
