Running My Fat Ass Off
April 24, 2008
In the spirit of Andrew Is Getting Fit (one of my new fave blogs), I’m going to document some of my runs.
My goal today was to do 5.5K in 40 minutes. I did it in 34. My trainer said between the 3rd and 4thK, she has a hard time pushing through. It didn’t help that from the 3.5 - 4 point mark it’s an incline, but I did it. I tracked it on Gmaps. What a great tool for anyone looking to keep a record of their walking, running, or cycling.
The Crazy Stallions (our team, named by Homie G - who clearly doesn’t realize 5 women can’t be stallions…rofl!) are going to run Saturday morning - 7K. I wonder what my time will be!
Don’t forget to sponsor us in the Forest City Road Races! WE ARE NEARLY HALFWAY TO GOAL!!!
The Thames Valley Children’s Centre needs all the help they can get and it’s a great cause.
So last night, after looking at my food diary, Homie G tells me I’m doing well, lots of protein, lots of veggies and get this:
not. enough. fat. What? I thought I was trying to get rid of fat, no?
So I did some investigating. Apparently the right kinds of fat are good for your heart & cholesterol. From Sparkpeople:
Don’t Fear Fat
The important thing to remember about fat intake is that you want to reduce it, not eliminate it. Cut back on saturated fat found in lard, butter, stick margarines, high fat dairy products, high fat meats, fried foods, cream sauces, and gravies. Instead of fearing all fats, let some good fat into your diet. Enjoy cooking, baking, and sautéing with olive oil, canola oil, and peanut oil. These oils are rich in monounsaturated fats, which help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.Unsaturated fats are generally regarded as the healthier type of fat, and they are good when they replace saturated fats in the diet. However, there are also two different types of unsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats have been shown to increase levels of HDL cholesterol in the blood, the “good” cholesterol that helps to prevent heart attacks. In moderation, monounsaturated fats can be a healthy part of your diet. Peanut butter, olive oil and canola oil are particularly high in monounsaturated fat. On the other hand, polyunsaturated fats are more likely to form free radicals and damage tissue. They come from plants and high-fat fish such as tuna and salmon.
Excellent - so after my run I made rainbow trout, couscous and cut up a green pepper for lunch. I sauteed some onions in olive oil and used olive oil to cook the fish too. I still drained it on a paper towel, but hopefully that helps. (Yeah, I don’t really care if you don’t care what I had for lunch, Mags. *snort*)
Lastly I want to give a HUGE shout out to all my Twitter peeps. I’m constantly encouraged on Twitter and it might sound silly, but you guys really make a huge difference in my motivation some days. Thanks so very much for @ing trollbaby with so much love and support. Big kisses @ all of your cute little cheeks.

The map is so neat. I’ve been walking about 3 miles a night the past week. *gives self high five*. Now, I must start running again. I also joined sparkpeople the other day. I’m just starting to navigate my way around it. Anyway, good luck with the Saturday run and thanks for the shoutout!

I’ve just found myself a running partner. Our goal is a half-marathon in October. Not sure how well we’ll do, but we’re going to give it a try. I enjoy reading about your progress!
Cheers!
