You’re Never Going To Believe This
April 24, 2008
Tonight when we got back from dinner, I headed over to the schoolyard to throw the ball around with Dylan and a couple of his buddies.
On our way back, we ran into my neighbour from a few doors down and you’ll never guess who was with him.
That’s right! Mylie! Turns out, the night she went missing, she was hanging around our houses (his and ours) and another neighbour brought her over to this guy’s house and of course, his wife fell in love with her. All the while? I was looking for her for 4 hours.
What I didn’t know before tonight was that their dog passed away earlier this year. We don’t see them all that often so I had no idea.
This past week they took Mylie to Animal Control, where the staff there took her picture and information and promised to call if anyone called in. Our city is a little weird how they handle strays, there’s the regular Humane Society, and there’s Animal Control. If AC picks a dog up (which they didn’t in this case), they send it on to HS.
I’ve been calling HS all week but I guess because our neighbours offered to foster Mylie indefinitely, AC saw no reason to notify HS in case I had been calling.
Now I know we were going to find her a new home anyway, because of her biting Thomas, so I got Daren to come and talk to our neighbour with me and we explained the situation to him and asked him if he wanted to keep her.
It was clear within a few minutes that our neighbours had a) done all the right things; b) took her to the vet to have her checked over; and c) fallen in love with her.
They don’t have small kids and the wife is home all day.
Daren and I talked to our neighbour for quite some time and we all agreed that she would be better off with them. No more bites for Thomas, and Mylie gets the love and attention she needs, all the while our neighbours are over the moon with their new dog.
Who, by the way, is now named Sadie.
It really is a win-win-win situation and while we love her and miss her, it’s what’s best for everyone involved. And who doesn’t love a happy ending?

am so happy to hear it. sounds like the ultimate perfect scenario!
can you BELIEVE how much you were looking? and now you know that night you were worried about her being cold she was totally chillin’ at someone else’s house. …weird!
were you like…”um, hey, uh…yeah, that’s my dog”?

Oh, it’s good she was found and is okay. I recently adopted a random dog from our neighborhood. I’ve called all necessary animal places, and I’m waiting for someone to claim it, but so far, no one has. Until then, we’re enjoying his company.

I still think you should get rid of the kids and get the dog back.
I kid, I kid! I am happy it all worked out.

See, this is just proof that sometimes things really do happen for a reason, even when there is heartache involved.
I’m so glad you got closure on Mylie, I mean Sadie.
And a happy ending.

Oh, wow! Funny how things work out, isn’t it? Now you can visit Mylie/Sadie and feel good about how things worked out too. Sadie was my childhood dogs name, so I have a special place in my heart for that name. So glad things are OK with her…

@Karl - thanks!
@Sarcomical - I HAD to link you at the end, what with how concerned you were. And yes - total verbatim…how’d you know?
@Amanda - awww I hope your situation turns out well too!
@Mel - yes that was a huge concern actually. Each day that went by, I was sure she had been hurt in some way. Thank God she wasn’t.
@Suebob - good point. hmmmmm…
@sleeping mommy - yes definitely things do happen for a reason!
@steph - yes, actually I’m picking up her file from our vet to give to them so they have everything.
so i’ll see her again tomorrow. it’s weird calling her sadie tho.

Yay! I am so glad you know she is ok. I know if my dog or cat disappeared, I would be a bawling mess until I KNEW what was going on. In fact, I’ve been a blubbering mess several times over my cat, who liked to escape when we lived in KS and hide either in our backyard grass *long wild grass* or under the neighbor’s porch. He ran away and hid the day we were getting ready to move to Alaska, and my husband actually told me if we didn’t find him when it was time to get in the car we were going to have to leave him behind. I told him no cat, no wife LOL
And what a wonderful solution!

So glad you found her. And you are such a nicer person - because I would have been annoyed as hell.

Oh so glad to hear!
When we moved we had to find a home for our beloved dog and an elderly couple had just lost their dog to cancer. They fell in love with her immediately and it was wonderful. But lucky for you you can still visit!
