Eviction!
May 28, 2008
Sam @ Temporarily Me is 7 long days overdue with her baby and I thought we could have a bloggy baby shower for her by posting our own stories of overdue babies (funny ones if possible - like the things you tried to get that baby OUT already!) for this week. If you want to participate, please do and just link to her so she can see we care!
If you participate, send me your link and I’ll put it in my post here(feel free to copy that list too). She is being induced today so I think posting anytime over the next few days would be fine - I’ll just keep adding to the linky love at my place.
Thanks,
Karen
Dylan was 12 days late and since I was on bedrest, I didn’t really do anything to try to get him out any faster - unless lying around like a beached couch-whale counts. I did have a glass of Kaluha and Milk the night before as Daren painted my toenails. It was the beginning of adorable things this man would do for me over the last 10 years. So cute.
Thomas wasn’t late - he was 2 days early but with him, I was much more impatient. The entire last week I played with my nipples more than my husband had over our marriage. I tried every last old wives tale except for Castor Oil - I was too chicken for that one.
I went into labour at noon so Daren came home and took me to the hospital. Labour was slow and they encouraged me to walk. FOR TWO HOURS. It was a shitty thing to say to a woman who just wanted her body back. I felt like a frigging Higglytown Hero waddling down the streets.
Labour increased only slightly over that time. Actually, I think they told me that to make me feel better. Right before they said WALK TWO MORE HOURS.
Daren and I were at the downtown hospital so we walked. To the pub. We sat down and had a good meal and shared a beer.
That didn’t exactly do the trick as all it did was relax me. So the pitocin drip was started and 18 hours later Thomas was born as the doctor ran in pulling gloves on. She barely made it!
People keep asking us if we’re having more kids. “Don’t you want a daughter?”
NO. NEVER AGAIN.
We don’t want to be outnumbered.
Best of luck Sam!

[...] I can imagine that Sam has had just about enough suspense herself, considering that she is waaaaay overdue. That baby just wants to stay inside. So Karen asked us to write about late babies as a gesture of solidarity and sisterhood. [...]

I was 2 weeks late with kid one, and 1 week late with kid 2. Kid three came a week early, bless her little Now You’re My Favorite heart.
I took a 3 mile hike at 38 weeks preg with kid one. Didn’t put me in labour, but it sure did spin me straight into the most horrifying false labour the world has ever known. I tried everything and that little f#@%er came right when he was damn good and ready to anyway.
Three kids is, I have one bit of advice for Sam. Dude, homie in there is PORTABLE and QUIET. And doesn’t smell bad yet. Go have cocktails (Yes, Sugarpants is right. Drink up, yo) and enjoy the last seconds of your sanity.

I didn’t post on this (life = crazy) but my son was a week late. I really wanted him out because if he was more than 7 days late they were going to do a c-section because he would, they speculate, be too big for a V-BAC delivery. He was actually born 4 hours before the time of my scheduled c-section. I believe it was all the preggo sex and idle nipple rolling while watching TV. Seriously. So GET BUSY, Sam

I don’t know about late babies, because I have bad luck with birthing the babies.
I do know that you are supposed to say “Get Out Of Mah Belleh” (you know the opposite of what that fat guy in Austin Powers says) It supposedly works every time because they are scared!
Good Luck Sam! Great Idea Sugarpants!!

Can you believe it? I had four babies and not one of them was overdue.
They all came early (a few days to a few weeks), except my second who was born right on the due date.
Looking forward to reading everyone’s stories!

I’m sorry I didn’t do my post for this, however, I just had to make sure I let you know that no matter what, PLEASE do not go for the castor oil. It’s dangerous for the baby if your body isn’t actually ready for birthin that baby yet.
My best wishes for you
