LAHORE – Punjab (CS) Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal on Wednesday expressed his displeasure over the sale of sugar at more than Rs 70 per kg in Ramazan bazaars in some districts and demanded a detailed report from the Divisional Commissioners.
Chairing a video-link meeting of divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners at the Civil Secretariat, the chief secretary said clear instructions had been issued to ensure the availability of sugar at Rs70 per kg in Ramazan bazaars, but some officers have not shown responsibility in compliance. He cautioned that implementation of the guidelines should be ensured in all cases as no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
The chief secretary said deputy commissioners should go to the field to monitor the situation, adding that the sale of sugar in Ramazan bazaars at more than 70 rupees per kg was not acceptable. He said administrative officers should perform their duties dynamically to bring relief to people. Asking officers to strengthen measures against smuggling, the SC said smuggling of wheat, flour and fertilizers could take place during the days of Eid. He also issued instructions regarding action against diesel hoarders across the province. Secretaries from different departments including agriculture, industries, food and relevant officers attended the meeting while all divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners participated via video link.
